About the Blog

So I decided to start a blog. I know, how original.

After watching the movie Julie and Julia, not only did I solidify the love I already felt for Amy Adams, but I decided that blogging wasn’t as weird as I had originally thought. Now, I don’t know if what I have to say is worth reading, or even if it is, who will read this blog, but I thought I would do it anyway.

The goal of my newly created blog is to “focus on the little things.” Living in New York City, it is easy to get caught up in the speed of the city and worry about the daily stresses of life. For the past year, I have wasted a lot of time and energy focusing on the stress and frustration of my life. Over the weekend, I came to realize that the “positive mental attitude” (or PMA) that I was raised with, has slowly dissolved.

Why is it so easy to spend so much time anguishing over life’s frustrations? In truth, I have an amazing life. I recently got engaged to my high school sweet heart and best friend. And he is amazing. And while my job is the root of much of my stress and negativity, I am employed and it could be a whole lot worse. I have an incredible relationship with my parents and my older sister is the best role model anyone could ask for. I am healthy and, when I stop to think about, happy.

So what’s the problem, you ask. In all of the NYC craziness, I have lost my focus. I have become obsessed with the things in my life that I wish I could change, so much so that I don’t take time to be thankful for all of the wonderful things that I wouldn’t change for anything. So the goal of this blog is to take a few minutes, each day, week or month, to focus on the little things. The things that make life so great.

So what are these little things, you ask. A few examples that come to mind: receiving the newest issue of Real Simple in my mailbox, a new song by the cast of Glee on iTunes, running in Central Park, or a new arts and crafts project.

While this is a self-motivated blog, I am hoping that what followers I do have, will gain happiness and knowledge from these little things. Don’t get me wrong, I am not looking to write the next self-help book; I am just hoping to revive my PMA and focus on the little things.

So please, follow along, post a comment, and enjoy!

  1. What an awesome blog! It’s so nice to read a New Yorker’s perspective. I live in London and can totally relate to the ‘craziness’. I’m a new blogger but will totally follow your blog!

  2. It´s SO sweet how you explain why you write this blog! :o) I love the way you write and I think focusing on the little things is very important because it´s all about them but not always easy to keep that in mind! So go on with that good work! :o)

    Lovely greetings from Germany

  3. I too recently saw the movie Julie and Julia and was moved and inspired because I could indentify with Julia. Sometimes it can be very easy to loose your way and become stuck and it is refreshing to hear about real people who find creative ways to redifine their happiness. I wish you lots of luck in your blog and hope that your “PMA” is infectious. It would be a great new twist to the online world to he able to catch a good dose of “PMA”.

  4. Julie & Julia inspired me to start a blog, too. I wonder how many people started blogging after watching that movie, haha. I love the objective of your blog. Stay happy!

  6. I see that you are currently reading “Maine”. I read it a couple of months ago; I thought it was great. I could definitely relate to the turmoil within the family. The idea of “dinner club” is fun. If books come up in conversation, so be it. If not, just enjoy food and drink!!

    1. Beverly,
I actually just finished Maine. I am currently looking for a new book to download to my trusty Kindle. And while I don’t love discussing books with people, I am always open to recommendations.

      Thanks for the comment!

  7. Nice. Your blog rationale is easy to understand and empathize with. Though my home is much less crowded and urban than yours, it sounds like you and I started writing (publically) for similar reasons. My blog is http://www.branzafina.com … about the fine moments, the ones that remind us “we are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars” – Oscar W

  8. Blogging allows you to see the things in the proper perspective. Writing always clears the head and blogging, well it is writing. =) I love what you wrote: “So the goal of this blog is to take a few minutes, each day, week or month, to focus on the little things. The things that make life so great.” I agree that it is the little things, the little miracles that we don’t notice anymore, that makes life so much richer and even more beautiful. I’ll be following you. =) Best wishes on the upcoming wedding.

  9. i really enjoyed reading your page about your blog, sounded like it’s something really important to you, to write about the little things that make your life worthwhile. i also believe that it’s important not to get tangled up in everyday life, and to try to enjoy every second of it, with loved ones.
thanks for posting such nice thoughts. keep up the good work !

  10. Little things indeed. Even I was caught up in a whirl of unimportant things that caused so much stress. But when I started focusing on the little things it simplied my life so much.
    Keep writing.

  11. i loved julie & julia! and amy adams! my husband thinks i mention her more than him in my blog about gratitude, which was started for similar reasons: reminding myself how great my life is…

congrats on being freshly pressed! i <3 the little things! :)

  12. I too started my blog after watching Julie and Julia two years ago: The Fearless Cooking club. It was an inspirational book and movie.

  13. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m so jealous you get to go to the farmer’s markets in the city. I grew up near Philadelphia and I miss the markets so much, but as you noted there were goats at the last market I went to, which just makes me smile.
